BBC Radio 3 is to broadcast live from Inverness next Friday as part of Train Tracks, its celebration of 200 years of Britain's modern railway.
In Tune with Petroc Trelawny will feature a number of guests, including live music by Gaelic choirs and Highland-based singer Julie Fowlis and fiddler Duncan Chisholm.
The drivetime programme will broadcast from the 160-year-old Royal Highland Hotel next to Inverness Station.
Trelawny will later board LNER's Highland Chieftain train and travel from Inverness to London, with stops in Pitlochry and Edinburgh. Train Tracks will be broadcast on Saturday 27 September.
'Unprecedented day'
The celebration marks 200 years since the first ever passenger train reached Stockton from Shildon, via Darlington, on 27 September 1825.
BBC Radio 3 controller Sam Jackson said: "We are thrilled to be marking this key milestone in the history of humankind, with an ambitious and unprecedented day of live broadcasting.
"Radio 3 will literally be travelling across the UK – very much a first in our history – as we take listeners on a journey from Inverness to London, exploring how the theme of train travel has inspired composers through the last two centuries."
