Public resuscitation demonstrations are set to held in a shopping centre in the Isle of Man's capital next month to encourage more people the first aid technique.

The Manx Care Resuscitation Team along with members from charity St John Ambulance will holding a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) workshop at the Strand Shopping Centre, in Douglas.

Running from 10:00 to 16:00 BST on 12 October, the team will also be available to answer questions, and supervise while members of the public practice on dummies with and without defibrillators.

Senior nurse leading for the event Paul Ellis said the team wanted "people of all ages to come along, as you never know when these skills may be needed".

The initiative is being led by the Resuscitation Council UK, which gathers a number of partners to raise awareness of cardiac arrests and to help people learn CPR.

The team had "successfully delivered this workshop for a number of years now" and, as about 80% of cardiac arrests happen in the home, "your two hands really can help save a life", Mr Ellis said.

Similar demonstrations were held at the shopping centre last year.
