Woking FC has backed a campaign to help boost number skills in Surrey

Woking FC is supporting a campaign to help Surrey residents boost their confidence with numbers.

The football team has partnered with Surrey County Council to encourage supporters to sign up to the government-funded Multiply course.

One in seven Surrey residents do not have a GSCE equivalent in Maths, according to the county council.

It said it chose to partner with the Surrey club due to their strong community connections.

Cards business development director Simon Jones said: "Woking FC has always had strong community links, supporting a number of local charities and community initiatives, and we are keen promoters of lifelong learning amongst our own staff and teams."

Some of the courses have been designed to help people who work in specific job roles like healthcare or early years - while others can help with hobbies such as cooking or gardening.

Confidence boost

Surrey County Council's Clare Curran said: “Around half of the UK working age population do not have strong numeracy skills, or don’t feel confident about using numbers.

"Multiply has been created to help bridge that numeracy skills gap to help Surrey adults reach their full potential and ensure no one is left behind.”

The Multiply courses are free for Surrey residents who do not have a GCSE grade C or equivalent and are over 19.

The courses are available now until the end of March 2025.
