Parents guilty of murdering their baby boy

Police described Klevi and Nivalda Pirjani's crime as a "truly shocking murder"

Two parents have been found guilty of murdering their three-month-old boy who was found unresponsive at their family home in Wirral.
Miguel Pirjani was taken to hospital after he was discovered at the house on Percy Road, in Seacombe, on 24 November 2024 but died from his injuries five days later.
His parents, Klevi Pirjani, 37, and Nivalda Santos Pirjani, 34, were convicted at Liverpool Crown Court of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child and causing grievous bodily harm. They will be sentenced next year.
The Crown Prosecution Service said Miguel was "totally reliant on his parents for his wellbeing, yet they were responsible for his murder and neither did anything to prevent it".
The pair initially both denied all the charges but Nivalda Pirjani later changed her plea to guilty for the offence of causing or allowing the death of a child, however, this was not accepted by prosecutors.
The Crown Prosecution Service said it proceeded with a trial on all counts for both parents as they did not feel the count the mother had admitted reflected the full extent of her offending.
Det Insp Holly Chance, of Merseyside Police, said: "This was a truly shocking murder of baby Miguel Pirjani, and it has been an extremely distressing case for us to investigate.
"Miguel was only three months old when his life was tragically cut short at the violent hands of his parents.
"Today's conviction of Klevi and Nivalda is exceptionally heart-breaking as Miguel lost his life tragically by his own parents who were meant to nurture and protect him from harm."
The pair are set to be sentenced at the same court early next year.
