Two drivers have been arrested after a man was fatally hit by two cars in succession on a motorway at night.
The man in his 30s was struck by the vehicles close to the junction 10 slip road on the westbound section of the M65 near Burnley at around 21:50 GMT on Friday, Lancashire Police said.
He was struck first by a white Fiat Punto and then a brown Mitsubishi ASX.
The drivers, a 24-year-old man from Burnley, and a 31-year-old man from Nelson, were both arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs.
Sgt Pete Fyans of Lancashire Police said: "A man has very sadly died in this collision, and our thoughts remain with his loved ones at this time.
"Our investigation is in its early stages, and we are carrying out a number of enquiries, some of which will require assistance from the public."
The 31-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi failed to stop at the scene and both the driver and vehicle were found shortly after by officers, a police spokesperson said.
Sgt Fyans appealed to anyone who was travelling on the motorway, and may have witnessed or have dashcam footage of the collision to contact them.
"We also want to hear from witnesses who might have seen a man walking in the Gannow top (junction 10) area and then entering the motorway network," he said.
"Additionally, we'd like to hear from any witnesses who saw a brown Mitsubishi ASX with offside panel damage between junction 10 and entering Blackburn."
