A police officer who was sacked after sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl on duty has admitted making indecent images of children.

Former Greater Manchester Police constable Dean Dempster pleaded guilty to charges of making child abuse images and of misconduct in public office.

He was convicted of sexual assault in February after admitting sexually touching a six-year-old child while on duty in Oldham.

The 35-year-old, of Langford Road, Manchester, had used his smartphone to record images of a family in their nightwear whilst responding to an incident, Liverpool Crown Court heard.

Dempster had also filmed himself speaking to a child who was the victim of an assault.

The former response officer was dismissed without notice in May.

Chief Constable Stephen Watson said Dempster had committed the "most egregious breach of trust".

Judge Stuart Driver KC said he could expect the "certainty of a long sentence" as he adjourned the sentencing hearing to 13 November.
