Rail passengers are being warned their train journeys are likely to take longer because of engineering work.

A section of track on the line between Newbury in Berkshire and Westbury, Wiltshire, is set to be replaced between 17 and 19 September.

Trains running between London Paddington and the south west will use an alternative route through Swindon, making journey times longer.

Replacement buses will operate between Newbury and Bedwyn, and between Pewsey and Swindon.

Trains will still run between London Paddington, Reading and Newbury, according to Great Western Railway (GWR).

There will be a reduced train service between Westbury and Swindon, with replacement buses operating between Westbury and Chippenham.

Work to prevent flooding will also take place.

More disruption is expected later in the year, affecting trains between Theale and Westbury from 11 to 14 November.

Further work will impact the route between Newbury and Westbury from 10 to 12 December.
