Artist Sara Otter said she infused crushed glass shards into her paintings

Thousands of pieces of arts and crafts have been displayed at the largest outdoor art market in the north of England this weekend.

The annual Art in the Gardens event is taking place at Sheffield Botanical Gardens to give artists a chance to show their work to art lovers in beautiful surroundings.

This year is the 21st event and includes more than 300 artists showcasing or selling their work.

Artist Sara Otter praised the event for allowing artists to display their work to people in person rather than just online.

Artist Peter Woolley said the "face to face interaction was lovely"

She said: “People end up following your social media for sales and just getting your name out there and allowing people to see your work in person is a major aspect of this.

“My new phase is putting diamond dust on my work, crushed glass shards, and it sparkles in the sunlight beautifully.”

Another artist at the event, Peter Woolley, said he also enjoys showcasing his work to people in person.

He said: “I like art shows as it is a chance for me to speak to people and for people to speak to me. It’s almost a unique opportunity as these days, everything happens online, so face to face interaction is lovely.”

As well as the artwork being displayed in various marquees at the event, there are sculptures on the lawns and an open art competition for people to get involved with.

There is also a "Home and Gardens" area to give people inspiration for the designs of their homes.
