The Teaching Regulation Agency has indefinitely banned a teacher from the profession after finding him guilty of "unacceptable professional conduct and/or conduct that may bring the profession into disrepute”.

Daniel Usher-Clark worked at a secondary school in Somerset where he was found to have sent inappropriate messages and made comments of a sexual nature to a recent former student who was still a child.

The panel found that Mr Usher-Clark's conduct "fell significantly short of the standards expected of the profession".

Mr Usher-Clark may appeal for the prohibition order to be removed in 2029, five years from the date of the hearing.

Under the ban, Mr Usher-Clark is "prohibited from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children’s home in England".

Update 7 November: This article was corrected to reflect the proven allegation concerned one recent former student.
