Speed limit proposed as part of new green project

Surrey County Council wans to cut the speed limit on the approach to a new crossing

A lower speed limit and a pedestrian crossing are being proposed for a road near Guildford, to help with an environmental project.
Surrey County Council (SCC) wants to cut the speed limit on Clay Lane in the Jacob's Well area to 30mph to support work by Guildford Borough Council to turn 49.5 hectares (122 acres) of land at Burpham Court Farm into a nature reserve.
The county council is proposing a raised pedex crossing to connect private footpaths serving the Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANG), and a speed limit on the approach.
A public consultation into the SCC proposals is open until 12 September.
Work began on the nature reserve in March, with new footpaths and cycle tracks, newly planted trees, hedgerows and picnic areas.
The reserve is part of a regeneration project named the Weyside Urban Village, which includes 1,550 homes.
Guildford Borough Council previously said the green space would offer a "stunning landscape, rich in wildlife, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers, walkers, and families".
