A man has been arrested after a drone was spotted circling over a Lancashire prison.

Police in Leyland said they responded quickly and stopped a car, which contained a drone, a "significant" quantity of drugs and other items, including a weapon.

The driver, a 39-year-old man from Derbyshire, was arrested on suspicion of sending illegal items in to HMP Garth prison and possession of offensive weapon, and is in custody.

"Drugs going into the prison contributes to the exploitation of vulnerable individuals," a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.
