Jersey's minister for sustainable economic development visited Alderney this week and met with his counterparts from the island.

Deputy Kirsten Morel was invited to the island by Alderney's Economic Development Committee (EDC).

The visit gave both islands "the opportunity to learn from each other in areas such as tourism, heritage, economic development, energy and transport," a joint statement from both governments said.

Mr Morel said Alderney had been "tremendously welcoming" and discussions had been "productive".

"I believe that there are opportunities for all the Channel Islands to work more closely together in many areas, and I have committed to exploring opportunities for greater cooperation across all sectors," he said.

Mr Morel met with various groups from Alderney during his informal two-day visit.

Representatives from Alderney shared successes using the island's "rich heritage landmarks in attracting cultural tourism" while Mr Morel shared Jersey's "success with agriculture and fisheries support" encouraging sustainable land and sea management.

EDC chairman Alex Snow said the group discussed "how the Channel Islands as a whole can be promoted" as a tourism destination with their "collective rich heritage and business opportunities".
