People have gathered in towns and cities throughout the West Midlands to mark Good Friday, one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar.

Many processed through the streets carrying a wooden cross in what is known as the Walk of Witness.

This is a re-enactment of Christ's walk with the cross on which he was to be crucified to the site of his execution.

There has been a campaign to promote the tradition, external in recent years as a way of bringing different denominations together and to promote Christian teaching.
