A man is in hospital after he was stabbed in what police described as "a serious assault".
Hertfordshire Police said the man, in his 40s, was stabbed near a Tesco at about 19:43 GMT on Friday at Burghley Avenue, Bishop's Stortford.
Police said the man was taken to hospital, where he remains.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Whilst this is believed to be an isolated, targeted attack and there is no risk to the wider public, there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days."
Police said they were pursuing lines of inquiry and asked anyone who witnessed the incident or had dashcam footage to come forward.
Tesco has been contacted for comment.
