A double ferry service is due to run over the Christmas period despite an annual refit and inspection.

Dartmouth's double ferry service on the River Dart would run from Monday 8 December to Sunday 4 2026, South Hams District Council said.

Julian Brazil, South Hams District Council's executive member for community services, operations and leisure, said: "Christmas is a special time in Dartmouth, and we want everyone to be able to enjoy the festivities without worry.

"Our maintenance and inspections are vital for safety, but we're delighted that both ferries will be running for the busiest part of the season."

The council said a single ferry service would run until 8 December as Tom Avis and Hauley VI would be be getting their refits.

After 4 January the single ferry service would return until 9 February 2026, when the double ferry service returns to its usual schedule, the council said.

Councillor Brazil said: "Whether you're off to a party, picking up last-minute gifts, or enjoying the magic of Christmas in the town, we're here to help you cross the Dart with ease."
