Part of a road will be closed overnight for four weeks to repair damage.

An accident involving an overturned lorry previously damaged the verge and carriageway of the A65 in Cumbria, leaving the road unsupported.

From Monday, the stretch of road between Crooklands roundabout and Nook will be fully closed to all traffic overnight.

Westmorland and Furness Council said a diversion route would be in place, and emergency services had been informed.

The impacted section of the road, which has been under traffic light control for several months, will be closed from 20:00 to 05:00 BST, Monday to Friday.

A retaining wall approximately 115ft (35m) in length will be constructed to support the road, the council added.

Cabinet member for highways Peter Thornton said: "We understand the closure will be frustrating for those who use the road regularly and have carefully planned works to take place overnight to reduce the impact of the closure."
