Essential maintenance work is set to begin on the M5 in Worcestershire to help improve safety for drivers.

National Highways is carrying out safety work between junctions two, at the Oldbury Interchange, and three, at Quinton, including resurfacing and renewing the road markings, to provide a clearer and safer carriageway for road users.

A small section of trees along the side of the northbound carriageway will also be removed, but only where it is "essential to maintain safety", the authority said.

The work will take place between September and mid-December 2025 on weeknights between 8pm and 6am.

The project will take place in three phases, the first of which will see the southbound carriageway closed overnight between 1 September and 14 October.

The second phase will see the northbound carriageway closed between 15 October and 11 December, excluding 1 December to 5 December.

The work will conclude with a final closure of the southbound carriageway for one night on 12 December.

National Highways said during the closures, fully signed diversions will be in place.
