A Stagecoach director said he hoped an increase to the number of buses available in a service would help it to become a "turn up and go" system.

Investments have been made to Stagecoach Busway in Cambridgeshire, to increase the capacity and frequency of some its services.

The public transport changes will come into effect in September and include adding three more buses to the service and increasing frequency during peak times.

David Boden, the business development director of Stagecoach East, said the organisation's park and rides and the Busway were on their way "to becoming the 'turn up and go’ service that we all want it to be".

'Three extra buses'

Stagecoach East, which is Cambridgeshire's largest bus operator, said from Sunday its Busway services would provide up to a 10-minute frequency along the northern track section between St Ives Park & Ride and Cambridge's city centre.

During morning and evening peaks, all Busway A and B Services will operate to serve Addenbrooke's Hospital and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

It said this would allow up to 10-minute frequency on either side of the track and introduce a capacity of more than 428 seats at peak times.

The upgrade was supported by funding from the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority and discussions are under way to support its long-term sustainability

Mr Boden said: "We are so excited, for our loyal customers, to introduce these changes. On the Busway, the improvement to services involves adding three extra buses on top of those already operating.

"Today, together with the park and rides, the Busway is an essential part of Cambridgeshire’s transport network, and it is on its way to becoming the ‘turn up and go’ service that we all want it to be."

B services

During morning and evening peak times the service will serve the hospitals on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and continue to serve Long Road College during term time.

More services to St Ives will be available from Addenbrooke's Bus Station.

It will need to use Hills Road as double-decker buses cannot use the Busway track because of the low bridge.

The H and R services will be withdrawn and will be replaced by more A and B journeys.

Madingley Park & Ride (PR1)

This will have an extra round-trip added at 08:20 BST from Madingley in response to customer feedback.

Extra journeys have been added at Trumpington Park & Ride (PR3) to extend the 10-minute frequency back to Trumpington until 18:55. The service will then run every 20 minutes from 19:10.

On Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 15:00, Trumpington Park & Ride will observe all stops.
