Two arrested after boy, 5, hurt in hit-and-run

Two people have been arrested after a five-year-old boy was struck and seriously injured by a car which then failed to stop.

The child was hit by a white Toyota Prius on Belfield Road, Accrington, at about 17:45 BST on Friday, Lancashire Police said.

He was taken to hospital and remained there on Saturday afternoon.

Two 20-year-old men from Accrington have been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage have been urged to contact police.
