An investigation has been launched after a number of gunshots were fired at a property and vehicle in Sheffield.

Officers on patrol in Burngreave were alerted to the incident on Wensley Street by members of the public at about 23:20 BST on Monday.

Det Supt Nikki Shimwell said no injuries had been reported, "but this could easily have not been the case".

"If you hold any information that could assist our investigation, I strongly encourage you to come forward," she added. "Even the smallest detail could be crucial in helping us move forward and identify those involved."

Armed officers were sent to the address and, after searching the wider area and discovering the vehicle, confirmed both sites had been damaged by gunfire.

A cordon remains in place on the road, around the junction with Hinde House Crescent, while the scene is investigated.
