Motorists are being warned about weekend diversions and closures as part of a £1bn road scheme.

Part of the A428 in Cambridgeshire will be closed between the Tithe Farm roundabout, east of St Neots, and the Caxton Gibbet roundabout further east.

National Highways will close the road from 20:00 BST on Friday, 29 August to 06:00 on Monday, 1 September, as they connect Cambridge Road to the A428 at Eltisley.

The works are part of a £1m a day scheme to build a 10-mile dual carriageway between the Black Cat roundabout, on the A1 in Bedfordshire, and the Caxton Gibbet roundabout.

The closure from the Tithe Farm roundabout, also known as Loves Farm roundabout/Cambridge Road roundabout, will be in place at the same times again between Friday, 12 September and Monday, 15 September.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "We will divert traffic on the A428 towards St Neots joining the A1 northbound at Wyboston Interchange.

"Drivers will leave the A1 at Brampton taking the A14 eastbound on to the A1198 Ermine Street towards Caxton Gibbet."

The new road is due to open in 2027.

National Highways said the scheme, when finished, will cut peak-time journeys by 10 minutes.

It gave further information about the upcoming diversions and closures on its website, external.
