Hull City Council said the new off-road cycle lanes would "encourage more active and sustainable travel"

Images of a proposed cycle scheme for east Hull have been released.

Hull City Council is planning to create off-road cycle lanes in Preston Road, between Southcoates Avenue and Marfleet Lane.

"Cyclops" junctions (cycle-optimised protected signals) will be installed, as part of an £8.7m package that also includes a redesigned Freetown Way.

The authority said improving the city’s transport network was "an important priority".

Under the proposals, Cyclops – which separates pedestrians and cyclists from motor vehicles – would be installed in Preston Road at the junctions with Southcoates Avenue and Marfleet Lane. There would be some changes to on-street parking.

The authority said it hoped the cycle scheme would encourage more active travel.

A public consultation into the plans is running until 27June

A public consultation will be held, with a series of drop-in events, external between 11 and 12 June, followed by another on 27 June.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, the cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways, said the authority was committed to "providing the facilities needed to support greater choice" on how people travelled.

Work on the project is expected to start in spring next year. Funding for the scheme is coming from Active Travel England's Active Travel Fund.
