Parts of the theatre remain open but the main auditorium is closed

A theatre auditorium which closed in September following the discovery of dangerous concrete could reopen in 2025.

Solihull Council discovered the reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC), which is prone to collapse, during a routine inspection of The Core Theatre.

It said survey work on the roof was continuing, but there had been "positive findings", which indicated it could be repaired by next year.

The council said in the meantime it was developing an "alternative programme of cultural activity".

A final technical report is expected soon and the authority said it would allow officers to plan the necessary work and confirm a more exact reopening date.

The leader of the council, Ian Courts, said: "The early indications are that we will be able to get the issue with the roof resolved and we can once again host shows."

The alternative events will include some in other parts of the theatre which are not at risk and which remain open.

They include the Studio theatre, Courtyard Gallery, Encore Café Bar, Core Creatives, Solihull Connect and The Core Library.

The council has received £307,000 from the West Midlands Combined Authority for the cultural programme.
