Six people, aged in their late teens and early 20s, were seriously injured after a car crashed into a barn wall.

Cleveland Police said it happened just after midnight on Sunday, in Coal Lane, Wolviston, near Billingham.

Four men and two women travelling in the five-seater blue Ford Fiesta Zetec were taken to hospital, some with fractures, and one man suffered injuries to his spine, police said.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen.

The car is believed to have travelled from Wolviston village centre, up Durham Road and onto Coal Lane before it crashed, a force spokesperson added.

Officers are investigating and have asked for anyone with doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage from along the route to contact police.
