Elderly woman dies after fire breaks out in house

An elderly woman died after an "accidental" fire broke out at a house.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to a property in Squires Ride, Hemel Hempstead, at 19:50 GMT on Monday 11 March.

The blaze was quickly brought under control, a woman was rescued but she died at the scene, the brigade said.

Police confirmed no one else was injured, no homes were evacuated, although road closures were put in place. They added that the victim's family were being supported by specially trained staff.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "A fire investigation was carried out following this incident and the cause was deemed to be accidental."
