A 24-hour intensive policing operation across Wolverhampton has resulted in nine arrests.

People were detained for various offences including drug possession, as well as suspected robbery, property damage and assault.

The operation began early this morning with Wolverhampton police executing a warrant to seize a quantity of suspected class-A drugs, resulting in an arrest.

"This is a day where we showcase all of the great work that we do across the range of policing activities," said Ch Supt Richard Fisher.

"This year we're focusing on one of the big challenges we've seen in Wolverhampton around serious youth violence and knife crime which requires a partnership approach to tackle."

Named Operation Advance, the initiative was launched in the city last summer before rolling out across West Midlands Police's other local policing areas.

It has now returned to Wolverhampton for today.

Operation Advance is part of the police's commitment to work more closely with their communities, according to a Facebook post, external from Wolverhampton Police.
