Man jailed for sexual assault in child's bedroom

A "highly dangerous" sex offender who broke into a home and assaulted a child has been jailed for 10 years.
Saqib Khan, from Brighouse, made his way into the family home, entered the child’s bedroom and committed a sexual assault while the child's parents were downstairs, Leeds Crown Court heard.
Khan, 40, was sentenced on Thursday for sexually assaulting a child aged under 10 on 20 April.
Det Insp Tal Laher from West Yorkshire Police described Khan's actions as "shocking" and said he "put his victim and [the] parents through what would be any family’s worst nightmare".
The victim’s relatives heard a disturbance upstairs but were unable to gain entry to the room.
The child’s father then rang 999, went outside and summoned help from two police officers who were passing the address.
They forced entry into the room and restrained and arrested Khan, who was found unanimously guilty of sexual assault following a trial in October.
Det Insp Laher said there was "no doubt" Khan was a "highly dangerous sexual offender".
"His offending could have been even worse had he not been restrained by two police constables who saw the child’s father on the street and intervened."
Khan will have to sign onto the sex offenders register for life following his release from prison.
He was also made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will make him subject to immediate arrest and prosecution if he breaches any of the terms set when he is released from prison.
