People have been warned to avoid a street in a town centre as more than a dozen firefighters tackled a blaze.

Pictures showed smoke billowing around buildings on Mill Street, Warwick, near the entrance of the Warwick Castle doors, with several fire engines on the scene.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service asked drivers to avoid the area due to heavy congestion around the site.

It said several crews were sent to the house fire and the blaze was contained.

Bus services were also diverted away from the area, according to operator Stagecoach Midlands.

BBC CWR's Phil Upton, who was in Warwick, said firefighters on ladders were pulling tiles away from a roof to get more access to the house.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said the force did not send any officers to the scene.
