A police car has collided with another car in a crash as officers responded to a robbery in which a security guard was pulled to the ground outside a shop.
The driver of a Hyundai suffered minor injuries in the collision at the junction of Queens Drive and Prescot Road in Old Swan, Liverpool, at about 09:40 BST, Merseyside Police said.
The force said a cash box was stolen from the security guard outside the Iceland store on Prescot Road but had since been found.
The suspects fled in a grey Audi and were later seen in West Derby allegedly trying to force the box open.
The driver of the Hyundai was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Det Insp Graeme Sutton said forensic, CCTV and witness inquiries were "ongoing" and urged anyone with information to contact the force.
"Although the security guard did not sustain serious injuries, this will have been a distressing experience and we will support him and the business as we work through the circumstances," he said.
"Such offences are increasingly rare, not least due to the successful prosecutions in the past and advances in security measures."
