A body discovered in water at a country park has been identified as a man who went missing on 28 July.

Jamie Attwood, who was 37 and from Raunds in Northamptonshire, was found dead at about 18:00 BST on Wednesday.

Searches involving the National Police Air Service had been under way in the area.

Northamptonshire Police has asked for the public's help in piecing together what happened to Mr Attwood after the last confirmed sighting of him.

A police investigation was launched after Mr Attwood's family reported him missing from his home in Raunds.

It established that he had been seen five miles (8km) away in Irthlingborough on the afternoon of 27 July.

It is not clear where he was between that sighting on Saturday and the discovery of his body on Wednesday.

Northamptonshire Police said formal identification was carried out on Thursday, and the outcome was released publicly with the consent of his next of kin.

Det Insp Nick Peters of Northamptonshire CID said: “This is a tragic outcome to the search for Jamie, and our thoughts and condolences are with his family and loved ones.

"We would ask that their privacy is respected at this desperately difficult time.”

The force said it wanted to hear, external from anyone who may have seen him in the Raunds, Irthlingborough or Stanwick Lakes areas since Saturday.
