An Asda supermarket near Bristol was reportedly evacuated after a man threatened shoppers.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a man has been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article and assault.

Several people took to social media to say shoppers fled Longwell Green's store during the incident at about 21:15 BST on Friday.

A force spokesperson confirmed no injuries had been reported.

The spokesperson added: “We were called at 9.12pm this evening to a report of a man threatening people at Asda.

“Officers attended and arrested a man at a nearby address on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and assault."

Posts on Facebook said staff told shoppers to leave as fire exits were opened.

Asda has been contacted for a comment.
