A large fire at a recycling centre was caused by a punctured lithium battery, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has said.

Seven crews were called to the blaze on South Fen Road in Bourne at 06:00 BST on Monday 1 April.

The fire caused severe damage to 75 tonnes of scrap metal at the private site, which neighbours the county council-owned Bourne Household Waste Recycling Centre.

The fire was eventually extinguished using two main jets, a thermal imaging camera, on-site machinery and an aerial ladder platform.

Crews from Bourne, Spalding, Deeping, Corby Glen, Gainsborough, Donington and Boston were called to the scene.

At the time, people living nearby were asked to keep their doors and windows closed.

Officials later said a battery was the cause of the fire after it was found in the scrap pile.
