Property owners on Ivegate have been encouraged to express interest in the grants

Property owners on a prominent street in the centre of Bradford have been encouraged to express interest in shop front improvement grants.

Shops on Ivegate, located in the city's Heritage Action Zone (HAZ), have been invited to claim a share of a £2m funding pot from Historic England.

Investment in the appearance of the street, which is one of Bradford's oldest, would make a "visible and positive impact" on its "historic character", Bradford Council said.

Properties elsewhere in the HAZ are not eligible for the grants, but the local authority has encouraged owners of those buildings to "get in touch to explore ways the council may be able to help".

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, executive member for regeneration, said the initiative would offer "immense benefits to our city centre".

He added: "It's about shining a spotlight on Bradford's distinctive heritage, restoring historic buildings, uncovering hidden stories, and engaging local residents in the city's proud history.

"I'd encourage property owners within the zone boundary to register their interest and find out more about how these grants could support their buildings."
