Roads shut as grenade found in charity box donations

Road closures were in place in and around Gladstone Street in Leicester while a bomb disposal squad was called

A bomb squad was called to Leicester city centre after a grenade was found in a box that was being donated to charity shop.

Leicestershire Police said it was called to Gladstone Street in the city centre just after 14:05 GMT on Tuesday.

A number of road closures were in place "in the interests of safety", the force added, around a car park.

The Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit was called, and removed the item from the area.

Roads in the area have now reopened, with officers thanking people "for their patience and co-operation".
