A man has suffered serious head injuries after being assaulted in Leicester city centre.

Police said they were called to reports that a man in his 20s had been injured in Horsefair Street shortly before 05:00 GMT.

Officers said a group of men left the area before they arrived at the scene.

The force said the man was taken to hospital for treatment and that no arrests have been made. They said they spoke to several people at the scene but would like anyone with information to come forward and also anyone with mobile phone or dashcam footage.
