A section of the A3 in Surrey will be closed this weekend as beams for a new bridge are brought in.

Major improvement works and landscaping are being carried out around the A3 and its junction with the M25 near Wisley.

The A3 around the junction will be closed from 21:00 BST until Monday at 06:00 BST.

Drivers using the M25 to pass the A3 will be unaffected.

When completed, the Wisley Lane Bridge will be used by drivers, cyclists, walkers and horse riders.

The A3 is also being widened on each side of the M25 junction 10 roundabout, which involves moving a major underground gas main.

The closures are northbound between the B2215/A247 exit at Ripley to the M25 junction 10, and southbound from junction 10 to the A247 at Burntcommon.

Drivers are being diverted via Leatherhead.

Jonathan Wade, from National Highways, said: "It takes us four hours to rig up the crane we need. It's capable of lifting 800 tonnes.

"We've got 10 beams in total, five on the northbound carriageway and five on the southbound carriageway."

Frances Porter lives near Wisley Gardens close to the A3, and says the work so far has been "three years of hell".

She said: "We're going to stock up so we don't have to go out, as if it's the war.

"This is people's lives that it's affecting."
