Man charged after spear assault on police officer

A man who allegedly attempted to assault a police officer with a spear in Tunbridge Wells has been charged.

Police were called to a disturbance at a residential property near Upper Grosvenor Road at about 16:30 GMT on Saturday.

A 33-year-old man lunged towards an officer with a spear, Kent Police said.

He was arrested and later charged with possession of an offensive weapon, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, false imprisonment, two counts of assault by beating, making threats to kill and criminal damage.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday and has since been bailed to appear before Maidstone Crown Court in April.
