Man's fire death linked to kitchen toaster

A fire in which a man died was accidentally started by a toaster, the fire service has said.
Crews were called to Wigwam Grove, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire at about 01:00 GMT on 4 November 2024
Daniel McLaughlin, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene after being rescued by firefighters.
Following an inquest, the fire and rescue service said the fire had started in the kitchen and warned householders to make sure electrical devices were safe and smoke alarms were installed.
Adrian Brizzolara, district manager and fire investigator, offered condolences to Mr McLaughlin's family
He said: "During our investigation we were able to locate and confirm the source of the fire to be a toaster that was located within the kitchen.
"We advise that all electrical items are used to the manufacturers guidance - especially within the kitchen or anywhere else in the home."
