Man sentenced after stabbing in Loughborough

A knifeman who left his victim with life-threatening injuries when he stabbed him in the back has been detained for 10 years and nine months.

Hussain Elyas stabbed the man in Loughborough's Ashby Square shortly after 19:00 GMT on 27 March, Leicestershire Police said.

On Friday, the 20-year-old, of Lindrick Drive, Leicester, was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court, after pleading guilty to Section 18 grievous bodily harm.

He was sentenced to 10 years and nine months and detained in a young offender's institution. The court heard Elyas will be transferred to an adult prison when he turns 21.

Elyas had also pleaded guilty to carrying a bladed article in a public places and for the possession of a controlled Class A drug with the intent to supply.

He will serve three years on licence following his custodial term and was also given an indefinite restraining order not to contact the victim.

Police said Elyas's victim was taken to hospital for emergency treatment and it was later established the knife had entered one of his kidneys and liver.

Det Con Jamie Anderson said the victim was lucky not to have died but still struggled with is mobility since the attack.

"Elyas carried out a violent attack on the victim and gave no regard to people around at the time and about the impact on anyone who may have witnessed the assault may have on them," he said.

"He is a dangerous individual, and I am relieved that he has pleaded guilty to his crime leaving him with a considerable amount of time behind bars."
