Ewe and lambs rescued from mountain crevice
- Published
A ewe and her two lambs had to be rescued after becoming trapped in a deep crevice in the Peak District.
Volunteers from Kinder Mountain Rescue Team were called to a rocky outcrop near Crowden Tower to rescue the animals at about 16:00 BST on Thursday.
A walker raised the alarm, fearing the family would either fall further and get injured, or starve in the crevice.
The rescue operation managed to lift the lambs to safety, which encouraged the mother to follow - with a few shoves from her human helpers.
All three were released uninjured by the team of five volunteers, without a more technical rope rescue operation needed.
A spokesperson for the Kinder Mountain Rescue Team said: “A lady walking on Kinder Scout had come across a sheep with two lambs stuck in a deep crack in the rocks.
“Fortunately, with a bit of hands on sheep wrangling, the team managed to get the lambs out, shortly followed by the mother, who had now decided that being shoved up the rocks was the best way to get back to her babies.
“The three of them then trotted back off on to the plateau to eat some grass.”
