Car park operator NCP has apologised for incorrectly serving parking fines during a Christmas market.

Visitors parking in Billericay Station during the annual event were charged despite a one-day free parking agreement between NCP and the Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower.

The car park operator acknowledged the mistake and said that it was "cancelling and refunding" any fine issued on that day.

"We sincerely apologise for the concern this must have caused," an NCP spokesperson added.

The Billericay Christmas Market is organised by the Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower.

It attracts around 20,000 visitors each year to raise money for charity and promote local businesses.
