A building at Melton Mowbray tip needs to be replaced

  • Published

A Leicestershire tip will be closed to the public for up to four weeks to allow for "essential works" to be carried out.

Leicestershire County Council said the staff building at Melton Mowbray's recycling and household waste site needed to be demolished "on health and safety grounds" and replaced.

The authority said the building, which contains an office, kitchen facilities and toilets, was "no longer up to the required standard".

The Lake Terrace site will be shut from 13 January to allow the work to take place.

The council said waste permits for the site would be accepted at other Leicestershire tips during the closure.

Blake Pain, the authority's cabinet member for environment and the green agenda, apologised for the inconvenience.

He added: "We have chosen to carry out these improvement works in January as it is a quieter period for the waste sites, outside of the busy spring and summer season."
