Former Wiltshire Police officer, Callum Denley, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court

An ex-police officer who breached a Sexual Harm Prevention Order by failing to hand over his mobile phone for inspection, has been sentenced.

Callum Denley, 20, of Old Alexander Road, Malmesbury, was given the order in May when he was handed a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, after admitting making indecent images of children.

Wiltshire Police said Denley had been arrested when he failed to hand over his phone and he was given a 12-month jail sentence, suspended for 24 months, at Swindon Crown Court on Friday. He must also carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

Judge Jason Taylor told Denley that if any illegal images were found on his phone during a search, he would be jailed.

The judge indicated that the suspended sentence had been imposed on the basis that no illegal images had been found on Denley's phone but the device had now been sent away for a "full forensic examination".

"If anything comes back, you know where you will be, prison, rest assured of that," Judge Taylor told Denley.

The former Wiltshire Police officer was also sentenced to attend 26 sessions of the Building Better Relations programme.

Denley resigned from the force on 18 March - the day he was charged - and has been placed on the national barred list, preventing him from working in policing in the future.

Wiltshire Police said he had been suspended as soon as the force became aware of the allegations against him.

Denley was found guilty of gross misconduct at a police hearing in July with the panel finding that he would have been dismissed without notice had he not already resigned.
