A YouTuber from Hull is working with schoolchildren to produce read-aloud films, hoping it will encourage them to read more.

Hannah Levy, founder of YouTube channel Storytime with Hannah and Patrick, will visit six schools in Hull to help Year 5 pupils produce their own read-aloud films.

The project, called Hull's Young Storytellers: Lights, Camera, Read, aims to boost literacy and creativity by combining storytelling with filmmaking.

Participants will be able to watch their films during a special screening at the Big Malarkey children's literature festival next year.

'Fantastic opportunity'

Ms Levy said: "As someone who struggled with reading in school, I found my confidence through drama and performance.

"I want to pass these skills on to children in my hometown of Hull."

As well as teaming up with Hull Schools' Library Service, Ms Levy will be joined by local actors Alison Shaw and Michael Kinsey and Katie Harriman, founder of production company Fly Girl Films.

Councillor Rob Pritchard said: “This project offers a fantastic opportunity to our young people to learn a whole host of new skills and I sincerely look forward to seeing the results of their hard work next year."
