A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a 17-year-old girl in Cefn Fforest.
Cameron Cheng, 18, appeared before Newport Magistrates' Court on Monday following the death of Lainie Williams last week.
Mr Cheng, of Newbridge, Caerphilly, was dressed in a grey jumper and trousers, and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
He has also been charged with the attempted murder of another woman and of possessing a bladed article.
Magistrate Christine Farrington said: "As you heard, this case is so serious it must be sent automatically to the crown court.
"The next hearing will be at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday. You will be remanded into custody until that time."
Last Thursday, police officers were called to a property in Wheatley Place at about 07:15 GMT. Ms Williams, of Cefn Fforest, was pronounced dead at the scene.
