A group of people have been arrested on suspicion of importing and supplying drugs, following a series of early-morning raids.

Greater Manchester Police said four men and one woman, aged between 18 and 32, had been arrested at five different addresses across Oldham on Wednesday, each of whom is suspected of importing and supplying drugs across the borough.

Officers found a substance believed to be cannabis during the raids, as well as weapons including a crossbow and a machete. The force also seized phones and other items.

Another woman, aged 26, was also arrested during the raids, on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The force said it had gathered intelligence about drug supply in the area as part of its Operation Vulcan, ahead of the raids on Wednesday morning.

Detective Inspector Lee Newburn, from GMP's Vulcan team, said: "In our commitment to keeping Derker and the wider community safe, we have carried out over 120 arrests and will continue to do this, pursuing those responsible for their crimes and bringing them to justice.

He added: "Officers will continue to work tirelessly with local communities to ensure your safety. If you have any concerns in your area, we urge you to get in touch with us and we will do everything we can to help."
