Two boys charged over fire at former hospital

Two boys have been charged in connection with a fire at a derelict building in Dumfries.

Emergency services were called out to the old Nithbank Hospital at about 15:00 on Thursday and Lindsay Terrace was shut for a while as a result.

Three engines were sent to the scene. The fire was extinguished and the area made safe.

A Police Scotland statement said two boys had been charged and a report would be sent to the relevant authorities.

A statement from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 15:08 on Thursday, 18 September to reports of a fire affecting the first floor of a derelict building on Craigs Road, Dumfries.

"Operations control mobilised three appliances to the scene.

"Crews left after making the area safe."
