In pictures: Summer staycations in Scotland

Many people have chosen to holiday close to home again this year due to the Covid pandemic and restrictions on some overseas travel.

As the Scottish school summer holidays come to an end, here are a selection of images sent in by BBC Scotland news website readers from their day trips and holidays at home.

Steven Ross' picture of six-month-old daughter Jessica during a trip to historic Dunottar Castle near Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire. A view of the ruin's stunning clifftop location was not enough to wake Jessica from her snooze.

Philip Redfearn's picture from his recent holiday on Skye. His image was taken at Elgol looking across to the Cuillin hills.

Christina Davis took her one-year-old daughter on her first holiday, which included a visit to Elie beach in Fife. Christina said: "We made some great memories on our staycation and the beautiful weather helped."

Keith Simpson got this picture on a boat trip from North Berwick, when a pod of dolphins came alongside.

Gregor Innes, from Edinburgh, came across this stag on a "refreshing and relaxing" holiday in Torridon in the Highlands.

Gill Shand, of Loanhead, visited the Hebridean island of Tiree. She said: "Who needs the Med when this is on our doorstep?"

Gerry Clifford, from Coatbridge, came across this post box beside the old post office in Kinlochleven in the west Highlands. He said: "Someone has knitted it a lovely woolly hat with woollen cup cakes on top."

Ross Robison, from Hamilton, tried out his photography skills at Dunskey Castle, Portpatrick, while on a staycation tour of Dumfries and Galloway.
