The Hindhead tunnel in Surrey will be closed for five nights for maintenance.
National Highways will close the A3 for southbound traffic from the Hogs Back junction to the Hazel Grove junction between 21:00 and 06:00 BST, Monday to Saturday.
There will only be local southbound access between Hogs Back and Bowlhead Green, in Thursley, during these times.
The road will also be closed to northbound traffic between the Longmoor junction and Hazel Grove during the same periods.
A spokersperson for National Highways said: "We carry out regular maintenance of the tunnel to keep it safe and working properly.
"When we do maintenance we try to avoid fully closing the tunnel and use a contraflow system instead."
Drivers travelling north are advised to follow diversion signs with a hollow diamond shape:
From the A3 at Longmoor, take the first exit from A325 roundabout, following the road to the Farnham roundabout and take the third exit
Follow the road to the Shepherd and Flock roundabout and use the third exit, continuing for approximately seven miles towards Guildford
On the approach to the A3, use the lane marked for London to rejoin the A3 northbound
Those travelling south should follow diversion signs with the solid triangle:
From the A3 southbound, leave at the Stag Hill interchange (Hogs Back) and join the A31 towards Farnham
Continue for approximately seven miles to the Shepherd and Flock roundabout. Use the first exit and continue on the Farnham Bypass. Continue to the B3001 junction
Cross over this junction to the A31/A325 roundabout, taking the first exit onto the A325. follow it along its entire length to the Longmoor Interchange roundabout
Cross over the roundabout to join the A3 southbound Longmoor on slip.
