Tuesday was provisionally the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures in London reaching 32C (90F), the Met Office has said.

In the East of England, Writtle in Essex reached 30.6C (87F) and Cambridge got up to 30.2C (86.4F).

Across the East, beaches were packed as families on summer holidays flocked for some much-needed sunshine.

However, a yellow weather warning, external for thunderstorms has been issued for parts of the region tomorrow, and the entire region on Thursday.
